“The Urban as Commodity” (part of the “21st Century”) consists of a series of visual observations regarding the radical changes happening in almost all aspects of human society. It considers such radical changes from the urban space perspective.
20th century modernist architects such as Oscar Niemeyer, who claimed to be inspired by the organic fluidity and sensuality of the curves, conceived and designed entire cities as well as homes from the perspective of their inhabitants.
Moving away from such approach, the contemporary corporate mind-set is transforming the urban space – as almost everything else – into a commodity, something to be bought and sold for profit. Ruled almost exclusively by financial gain, economic power is used as a weapon against the city’s own inhabitants destroying whatever prevents a quick profit.
And it is all there to be seen ….
